Tech facilities management firm sold

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has advised on the sale of technical facilities management and energy solutions company, Richard Irvin FM.

The company was acquired for an undisclosed sum by RSK Group – a global leader in the delivery of sustainable solutions.

The BDO Midlands corporate finance team advised the directors and shareholders of Richard Irvin FM. The team included Satvir Bungar (managing director, corporate finance M&A and head of Business Services M&A). He was supported by Matthew Goodliffe and Joseph Carbery.

Bungar said: “Richard Irvin FM has built up a strong reputation in energy solutions and technical facilities management across a range of specialisms, with extensive experience of advising and leading on FM contracts and ESG-related projects in both the public and private sectors.

“The values-driven business has achieved enormous success in recent years and the sale to a company of the stature and ambition of RSK marks an important chapter in Richard Irvin’s growth journey. We look forward to seeing how the company flourishes under the expert stewardship of RSK.”

With a network of offices across Scotland and the North of England, Richard Irvin FM employs 230 specialists, with a turnover in excess of £25 million. Clients include Total, BP, together with a range of public and private sector organisations, offering both energy and facilities management services, such as building energy management systems, heat pumps and solar and renewable solutions. The business also maintains, repairs and improves more than 62,000 UK commercial and domestic properties.

Mark Buchan, chief executive officer at Richard Irvin FM, will continue to lead the business following the acquisition. He said: “We are delighted with the acquisition, and we strongly believe that joining RSK will help us move forward as a company, building and strengthening our reputation even further.

“Over the last four years, we have already built the Richard Irvin FM brand into a company with an enviable reputation, which RSK can help us to develop further. Working with the RSK Group will support our growth plans into England and, with its broad group of companies, will provide us with the scope to offer our current and target customer base an enhanced range of services.”

RSK comprises more than 175 companies, with 11,000 people. The group’s annual turnover at the end of FY22 was £796 million.
