Savills has announced the appointment of Michael Maguire as an associate director to its development team in Birmingham, further strengthening the team’s regional operations across the Midlands.
With over ten years’ experience in the West Midlands market, Michael's focus will primarily be to work with both the public and private sector to unlock and deliver mixed-use and urban regeneration opportunities. Prior to joining Savills, Michael worked for a local developer and at Colliers International in a development consultancy role.
This strategic appointment follows the announcement of Andrew Galloway and Sadie Janes being confirmed as joint heads of the Birmingham development team. Combined with their office in Nottingham, the Midlands development team now comprises over 30 specialists and is already one of the largest multi-disciplinary development units outside London.
Michael said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Savills and I am looking forward to building on the success that the team has had to date. The challenges presented by the global pandemic have led to a rethink of the way we approach the city centre and mixed use development which presents some real opportunities, particularly in light of the continued investment in Birmingham City Centre and the wider conurbation.
"The close collaboration between Andrew’s and Sadie’s well-established teams is something that was a real draw for me and I hope to enhance our profile as a dedicated mixed-use team through offering strategic solutions to our clients.”
Andrew Galloway, director who takes the lead in development across the Midlands at Savills, said: “We have a strong presence across the Midlands with offices in Birmingham and Nottingham. Michael is a valuable and welcome addition whose experience will only strengthen the team’s existing capabilities and help grow our mixed-use portfolio and city centre offering.”
Last year the Savills Midlands development team acted approximately £200m of land sales across the East and West Midlands. For the third consecutive year, the total represented the sale of over 5,000 housing plots with an average plot value of roughly £40,000.
